Vee Design and Fourfold Studio were engaged by Council to bring together community, business owners and local government to collaboratively generate ideas to boost the local economy, improve user experience and activate the underused laneways within Lismore’s inner city precinct.

Fourfold Studio engaged community members and businesses, creating a Lismore Laneways Project Working Group to capture community priorities. This approach brought together a multitude of ideas focusing on social infrastructure and physical improvements. Key themes emerging from this process were predominantly additional greenery, lighting, outdoor dining, seating and art installations, and increased support for local businesses by providing spaces for showcasing local art, activations and programs to generate “visitorship” and consumer spend.

Vee Design and Fourfold then tested community-preferred ideas through pilot projects to influence the final Master plan. The community actively participated in the trials, providing feedback through the “Have Your Say” page actively managed by Council. Final activations included wall murals, retro phone booth “activation pods”, street furniture, decorative lighting, bright road pavement paint, landscaping work, bin art and wayfinding signage which reflect the eclectic and unique beating heart of Lismore.
