Robelle Domain Parklands‘ Orion Lagoon completed in September 2015 offers a new experience for the Springfield Community and its many visitors. The pool will be one of the biggest public lagoon-style swimming pools in Australia. Orion Lagoon precinct was designed in coordination with JMAC Construction and Ipswich City Council to ensure a quick turnaround and the best outcome for the future users.
As the designers, we wanted to create a precinct that sat comfortably in the existing Robelle Domain Parklands but offers a new lagoon precinct with its own character and a variety of unique, engaging water experiences. The lagoon precinct was designed for all ages and abilities with a range of depths and activity zones including a 1.5m lap area, beach entry and terraced seating in the main lagoon, a shallow depth sculpture pool, and playful ripples and steppers in the flowing stream. The lagoon precinct is a creative and vibrant public space that makes the Robelle Domain Parklands even better.
Orion Lagoon has also become an economic generator with an indicated 35% increase in local business sales; attributed to attracting corporate sponsorship, enabling free public admission and encouraging tourism. In collaboration with Jmac Constructions, Ipswich City Council and Aquatic One.
