The Railway Plaza is an urban corridor that provides not just a physical connection to the wider Moreton Bay region, but a major arrival statement and destination experience that sets the scene and design language for Capestone. Although pedestrian movement is the primary design driver, the plaza also creates zones for passive seating through a journey of angular insitu concrete seating walls.
These “zigzag” walls and corresponding pavement create angular viewpoints that slows pedestrian movement for safe and legible access and egress from the station. Signature plantings of yellow poinciana’s create effective shade over the seating walls, whilst creating a unique look and feel for the plaza. Native plantings within the river rock swale seamlessy intergrate stormwater management requirements into the design of the plaza, with subtle level changes to divert the eye between built and natural forms.
