The Ipswich Central Revitalisation project wove together our multi-disciplined team to regain a lost connection to place by integrating a robust model of Engagement, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Placemaking. This process facilitated comprehensive cross-community engagement as a pathway to transformation of great places and flourishing cultures, creating a Legacy Project that redefines Council’s model for collaborating with locals.
Vee Design partnered with the quintessential industry and community engagement firms FourFold Studio and Urban Enquiry to undertake a highly collaborative visioning and engagement process that built on projects already in motion, complemented by community input, to develop a clear road-map for the next 25-years of Ipswich.
In their comments regarding the 2022 AILA Landscape design award win, the AILA Judging Panel commented: “The creation of an identity for a city is a complex task. Identity in this case may have been lost over time through redevelopment in the name of progress that lost the connection to place. This robust and comprehensive process was supported by a integrated blend of creative disciplines and community and stakeholder consultation.
This new vision provides clear guidance to council and empowers the community to reinstate the centre of town in Ipswich and attract investment and activity. It is an excellent example of the benefits of landscape architects leading projects such as these and facilitating cross-departmental collaboration in centre revitalisation. AILA support the further development of this thinking as part of the Ipswich Centre Revitalisation strategies including a framework for future initiatives.”
